Extraction.  Extraction may be defined as the removal of soluble constituents from a solid or liquid or semi-solid with means of suitable solvent.  Leaching: The extraction of stable constituents from solid by means of a solvent is known as leaching. What is the difference between Leaching and Extraction? Leaching is done for solid phase substances while extraction can be done with either.

Difference Between Leaching and Extraction

After steeping for a leaching and extraction minutes, you sip from your mug and taste not just hot water, but delicious green tea, too. Although making tea is a very well known process, it's also an ideal example of how leaching works.

You took a solid matrix, like the tea bag, introduced it to a liquid, in this instance the hot water, and extracted green tea, or a substance, to make a cup of tea. Now that we understand what leaching is, let's look at the process in more detail, specifically regarding commercial applications.

The Leaching Process Within the chemical industry, leaching and extraction process of leaching is commonly referred to as extraction.

Sulfates are normally used to remove metals from the solid phase. These processes result in harmful sulfate-rich environmental byproducts. Because acids solubilize metals, large-scale release of heavy-metal-rich acidic mine drainage AMD can thereby occur.

A high degree of separation may be achieved with several extraction stages in series, particularly in countercurrent flow. Differences in solubility, and hence of separability by extraction, are associated leaching and extraction differences in chemical structure, whereas differences in vapor pressure are the basis of separation by distillation.

One liquid is composed of the carrier and solute to be extracted. The second liquid is solvent.

Equilibria in such cases are represented conveniently on triangular diagrams, either equilateral or right-angled, as for example on Figures Equivalent representations on rectangular coordinates also are shown. Leaching and extraction theory, these correlations involve only parameters that are derivable from measurements on binary mixtures, but in practice the resulting accuracy may be poor and some multicomponent equilibrium measurements also should be used to find the parameters.

Finding the parameters of these equations is a complex enough operation to require the use of a computer.

Extensive bibliographies have been compiled by Wisniak and Tamir — Then the separatory funnel is filled with an aqueous phase and leaching and extraction organic phase. Since they are immiscible, the two layers are separated. The funnel is shaken several times carefully and allowed to stand for few minutes with the lid of the funnel opened.

Then the two layers are collected in two different containers. The separation should be done several times in order to get accurate results. At the end, the required substance is in the organic leaching and extraction.

We can simply evaporate or use any other suitable technique to obtain pure substance from the organic phase.
